JOIN US TO LEARN HOW TO DRAGON DANCE!
Dragon dance, commonly known as “wulongdeng” in Chinese, is a traditional folk activity of the Han ethnic group that originated in China. The dragon dance stems from ancient reverence for dragons, and it is performed during festive occasions. It starts during the Spring Festival and continues with the “Dragon Raises Its Head” in the second month of the lunar calendar, as well as during the Dragon Boat Festival. During the dragon dance, the dragon follows a embroidered ball, performing various movements and postures such as twisting, waving, leaning back, kneeling, jumping, and shaking. Therefore, the dragon dance has become a folk cultural tradition across the country, representing prayers for peace and a bountiful harvest.
Dragon dance, along with lion dance, used to be one of the performances during major festivals throughout the year. With the migration of Chinese people to various parts of the world, dragon and lion dance cultures have becoming significant symbols of Chinese culture.
